Year One had a fabulous week celebrating the Queen's 90th Birthday.
We began by finding out about the Queen's life and about her family. We constructed a royal family tree in small groups before researching the Queen's life through video clips and photographs. We ordered the photos and wrote about her life - as a princess, a young wife, mother and major events in the Queen's life.
On Thursday we took part in our sponsored event, 'Fit for the Queen', when we had opportunity to take part in five activities including horse jumping (hurdles!) and a royal relay (using a sceptre). We all completed the activities - Mr Higgins was very proud of us all. Thank you to Year 6 for helping out!
We prepared for our Picnic Lunch by learning the National Anthem and other patriotic songs. We also made flags and placemats for the main event! We completed other art work including a design for a new stamp based upon the Queen's favourite breed of dog, the corgi.
The Picnic Lunch and party were great. We ate outside before taking part in 'Dancing through the decades' in the hall. We returned to our classroom to cool down and ended the week watching a live feed to Windsor Castle.
Happy Birthday Your Majesty!!
