WOW! What a great week we have had celebrating our love of books and reading in Year 1! Our focus this week has been on books containing monsters. We have read 'The Gruffalo' and 'The Gruffalo's Child' and learnt some great songs too! In English we have been writing descriptions of the Gruffalo and also descriptions of our own monsters that we created using an online programme. In Design Technology we have designed monsters. We have begun making our designs and look forward to showing them off next week...
On Monday we helped to write a shared story by the whole school. It was so exciting to hear it read out in assembly this morning. On Thursday we spend the day in our pyjamas and onesies - we had amazing fun. Thank you to Mrs Clayton who came to read 'Sharing a Shell' by Julia Donaldson. Learning the song was one of the highlights of our week! Another highlight was when our mums, dads and grandparents arrived to share 'bedtime stories' with us.
We would also like to say a big thank you to Year 6 who have come to read to us at the end of each day this week. We loved your storytelling.
Congratulations also go to those four people who were the first in Year 1 to get their silver reading award this week.
It has been a booktastic week and we are excited about continuing our monsters theme next week.
Keeeeeeeep Reading!!!
