Welcome to Year 6!
I hope you have all had a fantastic summer and are ready and raring to be back. We have lots of fun learning over the next few weeks with us starting our art topic this week.

Textiles in Year 5
Year 5 have enjoyed practising their sewing skills this half term. They practised a range of stitches then made a bag, making sure they took into account the seam allowance needed. Once it had all been stitched, they decorated their final piece.
Year 5 Music Afternoon
Year 5 had a great afternoon showcasing their musical talents. Thank you very much to all those who attended. I think you'll agree the singing was fantastic.
RE in Year 5
Year 5 have been looking at the similarities and differences between the Bible and the Torah.
They worked in groups to record their ideas.
Science with Southlands
On Friday Mrs Nolan from Southlands came in and worked with Year 5. She looked at states of matter with the children and they got to complete some different activities linked to this. They had to make a sachet of ketchup sink in a bottle of water and see how raisins danced in lemonade.

Shakespeare Rocks Rehearsals
This week, Year 5 and Year 6 have started rehearsing for the end of year play. This year we will be performing 'Shakespeare Rocks' which is a comedy about William Shakespeare set in the Elizabethan era. A letter will be coming out soon for parents to purchase tickets so watch this…
The Earth
This week in geography, the children have been looking at how the Earth is made up. They made a model of the different layers using plasticine.
Celebrating the royal wedding!
In preparation for the royal wedding, Y5 made flower sculptures and researched royal weddings.
Sewing Skills
Year 5 have been practising their sewing skills. They have learnt running and back stitch so far. Next we are moving on to cross stitch.
Reproduction in plants - Year 5
Year 5 have been looking at the reproductive process in flowers. They spent time dissecting lillies and tulips. They had to identify the different reproductive parts and describe their function.

Music improvisation
One of the musical skills in Year 5 is the ability to improvise their own music on the recorder.
Today the children wrote notes on the musical stave for a partner and they had to play it back to them. There were lots of interesting sounds!
