The Government have provided schools with Sports Premium funding as a legacy of the Olympics.  At Gillibrand some of the funding is being used to provide extra swimming lessons.  After half-term Y3 will be going swimming for the first time. As children aged 10 years and over can swim unaccompanied by an adult we felt that it was wiser to offer swimming earlier than we have previously at Gillibrand. The children will continue swimming in until the Spring Term in Yr4 and it is hoped by that time the majority will be able to swim.

When we went swimming on Wednesday we had an assessment and got put into groups. The swimming teacher was called Mary. Some people got to swim full lengths. I like swimming because I am good at it!

On Wednesday 26th January Yr3 went swimming for the first time. When we got there we met a teacher called Jean. Before we got in the pool Jean put us into groups. One group was for children who could not swim and the other group was for children who could swim. After that two children got into the pool and they swam one at a time. After we had all had a swim we got changed and got back on the coach and went back to school.
