This afternoon, children in Years 1, 2 and 5 enjoyed a fascinating visit from Mandy, a member of the Jewish community from Whitefield Hebrew Congregation. She came to talk to the children about Judaism and share key facts about the religion.
Years 1 and 2 explored topics such as Shabbat, the special prayer book called a Siddur, and the Sukkat, a shelter used during the festival of Sukkot. Meanwhile, Year 5 had a deeper discussion about the Torah, learning that it contains 613 mitzvot (rules) that Jewish people strive to follow. They also learned about the story of Moses, who received the Ten Commandments from God on Mount Sinai.
The children were full of thoughtful questions and were eager to learn more about Judaism. It was a truly enriching and engaging experience for all involved.
