Year 4 had the most amazing trip to the Home Farm today. The children learnt so much about dairy farming and how to look after cows and how to keep them healthy. They looked at the milking parlour, the cows habitat and what they ate. At the start of the visit the milk truck had arrived to take the milk away to be treated. Did you know that the milk collected today is on the shelves at the local supermarkets tomorrow? After the initial shock of the smell the children really engaged in all the activities that Elaine and Paul gave them. I even think we changed a few of the children’s aspirations. “I definitely want to be a farmer!” I heard at least 3 children say during our visit.
In the afternoon, the children took part in a mini -beast hunt and a walk around the grounds. They learnt that Home Farm was part of the estate in Croston and that it was the closest farm to Croston Hall which is why it became known as Home Farm.
The children have been so well behaved today especially with the hot weather. They really did show pride in our school.
Take a look at all the actives we did! We even made butter the old fashioned way and tasted it. It was delicious!
