We had a fantastic Book Week at school, below are the amazing events we planned for our children

At Gillibrand Primary School, we all love reading and we constantly strive to inspire a passion for reading in our children and, as such, we devoted an entire WEEK to reading!

We planned a fun-filled week of events and activities to ensure our children join in with a wide range of exciting and inspiring activities.

Monday – Launched ‘Book Week’ through a whole school assembly and the sharing of our amazing book bench showcasing the fantastic text – ‘Have You Ever Wondered What You Will Be?’  Every class will be completed work based upon the text over the course of the week.  We also took part in our first book day live digital event – ‘Matilda and Friends’.

Tuesday – Secret story tellers shared their favourite stories with the children.

Wednesday – The second of our book day live digital events – ‘Reality Check’.  Teachers swapped classes to share their favourite stories.

ThursdayWorld Book Day – Our third and final live digital event took place – ‘Using Our Imagination’.  In partnership with local bookshop, ‘Ebb and Flo’, some of our children (Y5 and the Book Club) met successful, local, children’s author Jen Carney and joined her in the audience at Chorley Little Theatre as she talked to children about her writing.  The event was live streamed for the children who remained at school.  More secret story tellers visited our school. Two pupils from Parklands also visiting to share books with our younger children. There was also be a highly successful book swap shop in the classes where children could swap their books with each other.

Friday – The week closed with a celebratory assembly where children celebrated their learning.  Y1, Y2, and Y3 shared poems they had written.  The assembly also included ‘The Masked Reader - Teacher Edition’ where the children needed to guess the masked member of staff reading a popular children’s story!  The children also watched the ‘Masked Reader’ competition entries from their class and guessed the reader.  Classes will also be swapped for ‘Chatter-Books’ time sharing books and talking all things books with children from other classes.

We also waved goodbye to our book bench as it is moved into a location in the town centre in readiness for the ‘What’s Your Story, Chorley?’ book bench trail on 26th March.

The children and staff all had an amazing time and there was a real buzz about books in every classroom in the school!

Thank you everyone who was involved in bringing Book Week alive for our children at Gillibrand Primary School!
