During the session the children found out all about the life and work of a civil engineer and we spoke about the amazing opportunities which children could have if they decided on a career in engineering, such as travel, working outdoors, supporting communities and problem solving. As a class we spoke about the furture roles that could exist, such as mining on Mars or holidaying on the Moon and all the engineers tghat are needed to make these new and exciting things happen.

Sam set the class a challenge, to build a bridge over a 30cm gap which would be able to hold a weight. But the children only had 5 pieces of paper and 10 art straws.....and they only had 20 minutes! It was tough but the children used their knowledge of different bridge types and the strength of triangles to help them. After 20 mins all the groups had created some amazing bridges but only half of the class managed to pass the weight test!
