Over the course of the the past two weeks all the children have had the opportunity to go on a visit to the local general store. It has taken two weeks as the weather prevented the second half of the class from safely enjoying the visit until yesterday, when the trip went ahead, at last! The last two groups of children have very patiently waited for their turn.
This walk was a great opportunity for children to use the local area to explore both the built and the natural environment. The children were looking for signs of change and the arrival of Spring. The children enjoyed spotting and reading road signs and talking about the different sorts of houses they saw. As the children passed the building site, near to the shop, they had a close look at the vehicles, signs and other things of interest.
Once in the shop the children were able to spend the coins they had brought. They were able to recognise the coins and help to find the total cost of their shopping. They chose the right coins, paid for their shopping and some were given change. They all enjoyed the trip immensely.
