Year 5's science topic is properties and changes of materials. This week we have been looking at irreversible changes. To help the children understand this a little better, they made pancakes. They looked at the ingredients needed, mixed them to form a batter then heated it through frying to make pancakes. They realised that they would be unable to get the original materials back and that the heat had altered them. This is an irreversible change.
This acitivity also supported our DT skills linked to demonstrating a range of cooking skills.
The best part was that they got to eat the pancakes at the end!!
