P.E. develops physical skills so that children can move efficiently, safely and effectively. At Gillibrand we aim to provide two hours of high quality Physical Education throughout both KS1 and KS2.
We follow the new Lancashire P.E. scheme of work. We offer opportunities to promote self-esteem and physical well-being in Dance, Gymnastics, Games Athletics and orienteering, as well as a range of extra-curricular activities. As the children get older we extend this list to include outdoor adventurous activities for children in Years 5 and 6.
Children in year 3 and 4 are offered swimming lessons and benefit from receiving additional swimming lessons due to the Sport Premium funding we receive. At Gillibrand we aim for every child to be able to swim at least 25m by the end of Year 4.
As part of the Sport Premium funding we receive from the Government, we have a partnership with Southlands High School. The partnership means that Elaine Smith from Southlands, a leading PE teacher, works with the staff and children and supports in the delivery of PE lessons within the school on a regular basis. Currently Mrs Smith is educating each class and parents about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
At Gillibrand we provide a range of extra-curricular activities. Clubs vary from term to term in order to offer a range of opportunities to our children. Extra-curricular activities take place after school and at lunch time. They include multi-skills, football, tag-rugby, cricket, netball, orienteering, gymnastics, and hockey. We use a range of companies to provide different sports for our children, and this year children will have the oppertunity to expereince Fencing, Judo and Badminton.
The children participate in local leagues and matches with neighbouring schools and regularly enter locally organised competitions.
PALs -Play At Lunchtimes
PALs leader training has been provided to all year 5 children by Southlands High School in order to encourage positive play during break times.
School Games Mark 2017
We have recently been awarded the Silver Sports mark. This award is in recognition of high quality PE lessons being taught in school and the passion and commitment of both staff and pupils.
